Road Under My Wheels

up and down the arc of your favorite songs

your ingrained ways you've had so long

you'll never wake to find them gone

not in this lifetime baby

are you messing up your own best chances

compromising circumstances

floodgates open mind the gap between

the things you say and what you mean

do you get played or play the scene

it's everything you know

are you messing up your own best chances

compromising circumstances

knocking back hard-fought advances

slipping down the slope

getting some road under my wheels

getting some tar under my heels

might make me feel good

one thing is sure

the highway distills it down

to something more pure

and left up to your own devices

knowing full well what the price is

wondering how thin the ice is

skating anyway

are you messing up your own best chances

compromising circumstances

knocking back hard-fought advances

slipping down the slope

getting some road under my wheels

could cure all my ills

getting some tar under my heels might make me feel good

yeah getting some tar under my heels might make me feel good

Turntable Symphony

waking your way into now can you find it

how can you see you've been sleeping and blinded

couldn't it be life is how we designed it

are you grabbing the axe

is there any need to grind it now

cut through the world like a stylus on vinyl

turntable symphony beyond all design

i'll make some more wake now with every foot forward

take the mistakes and heave them overboard

watch me stumble watch me fall

the fears will peal like thunder

wheels keep turning don't you know

don't it make you wonder

what i mean

we're ever waking from the dream i wonder how

Navigate By The Sun

well I'm here on the fence counting up your two cents

and I'm tired of wondering why

when we try as we might

we just can't get it right

well maybe it's the time for goodbye

and maybe our moment's come and gone

baby do we still have the will to go on

is it us is it just that I never can trust

that the payoff is worth all the cost

if you break ranks and run navigate by the sun

and you might go blind but you won't get lost

maybe our moment's come I'm gone

baby do we still have the will to go on

all these possible lives how could you live only one

the good moments arrive when the bad ones move on

the bad ones move on

it's hard to say exactly when

you felt the pain come

but you didn't feel it going

change in the tide is all you can rely on

cut your problems to size just by keeping your eyes on them

the moment they go is the moment you know

you're whipping the cart trying to make the horse go

Run On Faith

I like it when your space

is right up inside mine

I've been in this race so long but I've been running blind

I can run on faith

I don't really mind

people are running everywhere and no one's got the time

it seems like such a waste

the workings of this mind

entertaining all this pain when everything is fine

even when I can slow down

most times I still don't unwind

and living in this haste is gonna cut my face all full of lines

I calm down

and I ramp up

I've been living in between the scenes

but it's never enough

caught up in time just drags you down

but all there really is

is here and now

when I come to the place

that I set out to find

I'll make sure the chance ain't wasted stake the claim this time

once I get a taste

I know I can't be resigned

to go back to the way things were I'm gonna leave the past behind

I come down

and I ramp up

I've been living in between the scenes

but it's never enough

it's never enough

I can run on faith

I don't really mind

Never Arriving

of all unholy states I've ever seen you in this is the most

I fly my paper aeroplane for fun until the bubble bursts

and left there standing still recalling dreams of days on other coasts

but no amountof sorrys now could keep things going bad to worse

following the thread inside your head down to your inner thigh

maybe better off instead to leave me with a glad reply

hop on pop and never stop and I suppose I will comply

balance my supply until I turn you over

all in all

never arriving

all in all

all in the same boat

all in all

never arriving

never arriving

all in a days work

hypnotized by candy floss the albatross flies out of hand

a pool of your own dipping sauce I figured you would understand

regardless of the cost you know your wish is always my command

and any pebble tossed can redesign the best laid of your plans

it doesn't have to mean a thing to make you want to dance and sing

really all you need is for it just to give your bell a ring

sitting down and making sure your blessing won't be getting cursed

keep your fortunes so there can be no reversal

all in all

never arriving

all in all

all in the same boat

all in all

never arriving

never arriving

all in a days work

A Hundred Million

a hundred million tiny vials

pills and powders with magic powers

a hundred million paste-on smiles

something for the corporate clients

got them dialed down to science

wrapped inside this living skin

caught up in all this mess we're in

don't you know that it's always been

just a beautiful nothing

fifty thousand plastic flowers

five new ways to waste your hours

a hundred million wasted miles

fifty billion colored tablets

useless gadgets

lost without it

wrapped inside this living skin

caught up in all this mess we're in

don't you know that it's always been

just a beautiful nothing

for a limited time only

while supplies last

you can be one of the billions and billions served

but you've gotta act fast

it's been this way too long

there's always something wrong

we just can't sit still

let the day go by

we're always trying to go back to where we've been

or somewhere else

we never know

how to begin

or how to end this trend

a thousand million barrels of oil

and to the victims goes the spoil

wrapped inside this living skin

caught up in all this mess we're in

don't you know that it's always been

just a beautiful nothing

Book Of A Thousand

the other day I finally noticed

if you shut your mouth

it doesn't matter where the money is

and I declined the chance to blame myself

an empty slate

well you're a stone tablet pilot

just need some empty space to run around

and exercise your prerogative

I declined the chance to blame myself

so I devised a plan for someone else

the machinations of the night

I go to sleep while it gets light

and I'm wanting to repeat it

and I even think I might

but I feel you come in clanging

and I leave the question hanging

I decide nobody's wrong nobody's right

but can you read your own signs

how could it matter much to anybody else around

if I should go away

I'd like to think you'd notice

book of a thousand ways of killing time

 I finally wrote it

and I declined another chance to blame myself

so I devised a plan for someone else

and I decide I got to put you on the shelf

book of a thousand ways of killing time

I finally wrote it

Stars Were Easy

remembering when songs were easy and you'd wake up and sing

easy come and easy go and you would know just what to bring

even the stars were easy

you felt like everything was simple

if at first the stars mislead me

it don't mean a thing

around and around about the sky

like they were twirling on a string

sit there long enough and they come back again

isn't that simple

even the stars were easy

we just don't recall

knowing that the stars conceive me

it means everything

for well you know that things must change

you can't go back the way you came

but your self itself has always been the same

do you think that's simple

even the stars were easy

we just don't recall

even the stars were easy

and they're taking shape in strange amazing forms

lighting up in the evening

trying to stretch out time

make it slower and make it longer

even the stars were easy

we were always here even long before we're born

I know the stars conceive me

and we'll still be here even long after we're gone
